Server Deployment and Migration Planning

Turn application requirements into a practical deployment plan before moving production traffic or ordering additional capacity.

A practical deployment checklist

  1. Inventory the application

List the applications, databases, scheduled jobs, domains, external integrations and software licences. Record current resource use and identify dependencies that must move together.

  2. Choose resources and location

Estimate CPU, memory, storage capacity and storage performance. Allow room for growth. Compare dedicated and cloud servers, then check your chosen location and configuration in the cart.

  3. Define access and recovery

Assign an owner for administration, updates and monitoring. Set backup frequency, retention and a restore procedure. Protect secrets and keep a recoverable copy outside the server being changed.

  4. Test before switching traffic

Test application functions, data integrity, email and scheduled jobs on the new configuration. Use realistic traffic where possible, and verify that monitoring and restore procedures work.

  5. Plan cutover and rollback

Choose a maintenance window, final data-sync method and DNS changes. Define what would trigger rollback and who may authorize it. Keep the previous environment available until the new service is verified.

  6. Review after launch

Check errors, performance, backups and billing after the move. Update documentation and retire old resources only after dependencies and retained data have been accounted for.

Choose a plan after defining the workload

Use measured application needs to compare configurations. A larger server alone will not resolve every database, network or software bottleneck. For operating tasks, review server management responsibilities alongside your hardware selection.
